Foodie Adventures NS
Over the weekend I travelled to Halifax and Lunenburg for a little foodie fun.
Halifax
On Saturday, after visiting the Wolfville Farmers’ Market for spicy soba noodles from Ross and cappuccino from Doug at Just Us! Coffee we headed to Halifax to the Seaport Market. Tasted some lovely chocolate from Stickler Chocolates and the 2011 Tidal Bay Avondale Sky Winery. I highly recommend both. Ben Swetnam, Avondale Sky’s Winemaker, has produced a Tidal Bay that is little drier and crisp than the other Tidal Bay’s I’ve tried, I love it. From there and then headed to Garrison Brewery where I tasted the Tilford Nit Wit Seasonal Belgian Style Wheat and the Raspberry Wheat.
Lunenburg
On Sunday, I travelled to Lunenburg. Walking around Lunenburg on a sunny day is one of the most exquisite Nova Scotian experiences. After walking around the town with Lunenburg based singer/songwriter/actor Amanda Leblanc, we visited Ironworks Distillery to taste spirits and liquors. Ironworks has a variety of tasty distilled products which are all derived from local fruits and vegetables. Their Apple Brandy, made from Annapolis Valley Apples and Blueberry Liquor from Wild Blueberries are my favorites. See more http://ironworksdistillery.com/products Next we stopped at the Salt Shaker Deli for chicken soup and thin crust pesto pizza topped with homemade sausage, brie, and artichoke hearts.
